Sherry Williams

Please meet Sherry Williams, mother of Jennifer Goodpasture:

Many of you know Jennifer Goodpasture from both indoor and outdoor soccer over the years, but now you will get to know her wonderful mom, Sherry.

Earlier this year Sherry experienced what her physician assumed was an abscessed tooth with a painful lymph node that didn’t go down in size after treatment with antibiotics. After a few months of more unexplained symptoms, including what seemed to be another abscessed tooth and fevers, Sherry was directed to receive further care.

Eventually, through many tests and scans, Sherry was diagnosed quite recently with Non-Hodgkin Large B Cell Lymphoma, also known as Diffuse B Cell Lymphoma.

Sherry has always been a very active person, walking 3 miles daily in addition to her morning fitness classes. She volunteers at her church and is known for being the rock of her family. She is now facing a difficult treatment regimen consisting of 5 different medications given every 3 weeks to gain control of her cancer.

Please join us in supporting Jennifer and Sherry however you can this year!

Scott Bumpas

Please meet Scott Bumpas, father of Sarah Tyler:

Sarah has been involved with the Knoxville Metro Soccer League for many years and even works at a local oncology practice.

As many cancers go undetected for too long, routine screenings often lead to identification of an unknown problem, as was the case for Sarah’s father. After undergoing a planned colonoscopy early this year, the doctors found something unusual and immediately sent a sample for a biopsy. Quickly, Scott and Sarah were informed that he had Stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare type of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Sarah has been fortunate to have the knowledge to comfort her father with what to expect along his journey, but even his original treatment brought disappointing side effects. Originally Scott was set to receive therapy to reduce his cancer burden in the hopes that he would be sent for a bone marrow transplant; however, the initial treatment toxicities did so much damage to his kidneys that he is not currently a transplant candidate.

Currently, both Scott and our other honoree, Sherry, are receiving the same five drug treatment regimen to control their respective lymphomas. And both of them need our help and support!

Please join us in supporting Sarah and Scott however you can this year! In addition to the tournament, we will be hosting a LIVE (!!!) 5k later in August, hosting a silent auction at the tournament, holding various fundraising events, and even just accepting donations through our website, www.knoxkickincancer.com.
